Why Isn’t My Car Starting?

Casey Automotive • July 24, 2012

At one point or another, every driver has experienced the moment when they get into their car only to find that it does not start. Needless to say, this is a very frustrating situation to be in. In addition to not being able to drive, fixing the problem can be difficult, since there are so many different things that could potentially stop your car from starting properly. Here are a few of the most common problems that can prevent your car from starting properly, and some auto repair solutions that can help you get back on the road.

  • Dead Battery

One of the most common reasons a car won’t start is that its battery is dead. Fortunately, this is also one of the easier issues to address. With the help of jumper cables and another car, you can jumpstart your battery and get your car started. However, it is often a good idea to replace your battery as soon as possible to avoid further problems.

  • Fuel System Problems

If there is a problem with your fuel system , your car might not start at all. The fuel system involves many parts, but its function is essentially to deliver fuel and oxygen to the combustion chamber. If you have a leak in one of your fuel system components, for example, there might not be enough fuel for combustion to occur. Alternatively, there could be a problem with the oxygen intake.

  • Broken Starter Motor

The starter motor is the component of your car that turns over the engine to start it. If you turn the key in your car’s ignition and you hear a clicking noise but the car doesn’t start, this is a sign that you could have a problem with your starter motor. Unfortunately, unlike a dead battery, this is a problem without a quick fix. If you suspect that your starter might about, you need to get your car to a mechanic as soon as possible and get the proper auto repair.

When your car doesn’t start, it can be extremely inconvenient. Whether you are going to work, heading out on a road trip, or are simply driving to the store to buy groceries, a car that doesn’t start can seriously compromise your schedule. Of course, preventing these problems from occurring in the first place requires diligent auto repair and maintenance.
