Tips for Prepping Your Car for a Summer Road Trip

Casey Automotive • July 6, 2012

For millions of families around the country, summer means the arrival of road trip season. With the kids out of school, it’s time to pile into the family car and take a vacation. Before you do hit the road, however, it is important to make sure that your car is working in top condition. Failing to handle the necessary auto repair concerns is a risk that could end up leaving you stranded in the middle of nowhere. Here are some tips for prepping your car for a summer road trip.

  • AC Inspection

When you embark on your summer road trip , you could be spending hours on the road without interruption. For this reason, comfort is paramount. Given the temperatures outside, your cabin is sure to get hot. As most parents know, this can lead to plenty of complaints from the children in the backseat. Ensuring that your car has a working air conditioning unit can help keep your passengers happy. For this reason it is important to have a mechanic carry out a detailed inspection of your air conditioning unit. In addition to checking the refrigerant levels, a mechanic will be able to check our car for leaks that could lead to your AC dying out prematurely.

  • General Maintenance and Oil Change

In addition to checking your AC, it is important to have a mechanic carry out a general maintenance check and change your car’s oil. Oil is an integral part of your car’s operation since it is responsible for lubricating engine parts. Without a sufficient amount of oil, your engine can run into serious problems, cutting your summer road trip short. General maintenance checks are also a good way to make sure that your car doesn’t have any minor problems that could become serious down the road.

  • Tire Maintenance

The last thing you need is to have a tire puncture in the middle of nowhere. Even with a spare, you won’t be able to drive very far. For this reason, having your tires checked and rotated before embarking on a long trip is always a good idea. Tire rotation helps to more evenly distribute wear. Having your tires checked can also help find potential problems before one of your tires fails.

Don’t take any risks this summer. If you are planning on going on a summer road trip, make sure that your car is in top shape. Doing so will help protect your family and ensure that your trip is a success. To learn more about how to prep your car for a summer road trip, call Casey Automotive at (866) 709-3522.
